Stage One: Stabilizing the Gasconade River Bridge

The first critical step in preserving the Gasconade River Bridge is to stabilize the structure and halt further deterioration. Recognizing this need, the Route 66 Association of Missouri, Inc., has been awarded a grant to initiate an engineering survey of the bridge. This survey is crucial to assess the bridge's condition, identify critical components, and make necessary repairs to address liability concerns.
Collaborative Efforts for a Safer Future
The preservation of this bridge requires a concerted effort. With the support of the Route 66 Corridor Preservation Program of the National Park Service, The National Trust, and the generosity of donors, we are set to begin this vital phase of stabilization. This effort not only preserves a piece of history but also ensures the safety and integrity of the bridge for years to come.
Stage Two: Comprehensive Rehabilitation and Reopening
A Vision for Renewed Access
Following stabilization, the next phase focuses on a comprehensive rehabilitation plan, aiming to reopen the bridge to pedestrians and bicyclists. This stage is centered around restoring the bridge's structural integrity while maintaining its historical character. The estimated costs for this extensive rehabilitation exceed $2.5 million, encompassing construction, design, and additional fees.

The association’s goal is to transform the Gasconade River Bridge into a safe and accessible pathway for those who wish to explore and appreciate the beauty and history of Route 66.
